East Sussex had a busy weekend with ICC and national triples taking place.
The A team travelled to Surrey for their first away game of the season on Saturday.
Initially the match was very even with Surrey taking the lead in the first session 6-2 and East Sussex responding 6-2 after the triples and fours. A dominant third session with the singles and pairs winning all 4 games and gaining 3 of the four bonus points for those disciplines. The final session ended 4-4 with East Sussex gaining the bonus points for the triples. The game ended with East Sussex winning 25 – 15, scoring 198 shots to Surrey’s 163.
Both manager Mandy Moore and captain Peter Winter MBE were very happy with result and how the players adjusted to Surreys faster mats.
Peter Winter, Chris Escott and Dave Hacker stood in to assist umpiring duties as Surrey’s prem team was also playing Hampshire at the same time. Dan Awcock of Plumpton also made his debut for the A team.
Sunday saw the first of many qualifying events for the 2024/25 national finals. The triples qualifier, held at Hailsham Civic Hall, saw 10 teams take part split over 2 groups.
After a long day, the eventual winners were Paul Seaman, Nigel Froud and Glen Harvey beating Graham Keeley, Chris Escott and Peter Winter in the final.
Roger Emeny, Des Foord and Colin Mouland won the third place playoff against Les Dunster, Ed Law and Jeremy Leach.
Thanks goes to Peter Winter MBE for organising Sundays event and to those who helped put out and pack away the mats.
Allocations for the national finals in April 2025 will be announced once they have been set by ESMBA
